The Big Island Interscholastic Federation released its All-League basketball team selections and accolades for the 2022-23 season on Monday.
The Division I Girls All-League First Team included; Waiakea senior forward Korri-Lyn Fernandez, Waiakea freshman guard and forward Puaena Herrington, Konawaena freshman guard and forward Haikela Hiraishi, Konawaena senior forward Braelyn Kauhi, Waiakea junior guard and forward Jolie Mantz and Konwaena senior guard Alexa Meyer.
Kauhi was also named Division I Player of the Year — and her coach, Bobbie Awa, was named Division I Coach of the Year.
The DI Girls All-League Second Team included; Hilo senior guard Tiffany Castillo, Kealakehe senior guard Jordan Edens, Waiakea junior guard Maya Kaneshiro, Waiakea junior forward and center Ava Santos, Konawaena freshman guard Kaylie Yamasaki and Kea‘au senior guard Olivia Yasutake.
Honorable mentions included; Hilo’s Stephanie Hirowatari and Pamela Toledo — Kea‘au’s Raychelle Ducusin, Jezadette Gonzalez, Alissa Kaheaku, Charlie Ann Narvaez and Jaeley Salazar — Konawaena’s Kaitea Gallates and Angelie Molina, and Waiakea’s Hannah Iwahiro.
The DI Boys All-League First Team included; Waiakea senior guard Ryder Cabreros, Konwaena senior guard Coby Allan Molina, Konwaena sophomore center Abraham Ogata, Hilo junior forward Peyton Pana and Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i sophomore guards Nixis Yamauchi and Kiai Yasso.
Yasso was named Division I Player of the Year — and his coach, Mea Wong was named Division I Coach of the Year.
The second team was comprised of; Waiakea senior center AJ Doll, KSH junior guard and forward Kaleb Guerrero, Konawaena senior guard Taven Hiraishi, KSH freshman guard and forward Kawohi Huihui and Hilo junior guard and forwards Ikena Leao and Josiah Williams.
Honorable mentions were; Hilo’s Kai Kaneta — Kea‘au’s Dane Bannister, Anselmo Jose III and Thayne Nakoa — Kealakehe’s Jerome Carnate, Geonwoo Lee and Kekona Ulu — Konawaena’s Riley Asakura, Prettyman Cash and Alex Martinez and Waiakea’s Kaimalu Halemau, Peton Kuhia-Smith, Skylar Macomber and Trystin Stevens.
The Division II Girls All-League First Team was; Christian Liberty senior guard Kamille Febo-Santiago, KSH junior forwards Maela Honma and Keanu Marie Huihui, Honokaa junior guard and forward Kristen Ragasa and Hawai‘i Prep’s junior guard Brooke Samura ans senior forward Ali Wawner.
Huihui was named Division II Player of the Year, and KSH coach Donald Yamada was named Division II Coach of the Year.
The Second Team was; KSH sophomore guard Kacie Febo-Santiago, Honokaa freshman forward Talia Laeli, KSH junior guard Baeleigh Lukzen, Kohala freshman guard Halia Perez-Bobek, Kohala junior forward Jayline Salvador and Honkaa junior guard and forward Rylee Velazquez.
Honorable mentions were; Honokaa’s Ilima Napoleon and Keighzlyn Walker — KSH’s Leile Ortiz and Kaiyana Troy — Ka‘u’s Riley-Ann Brown, Kammalyn Jara, Katrina Manantan, Shania Silva, Cileyna Silva-Kamei and Tyra Wong Yuen — Kohala’s Camille Fuertes, Kailani Valenzuela-Conte and Adriana Soriano and Pahoa’s Azariyah Brown, Jaylynn Kaawaloa-Alidon and Isabella Koslik.
On the boys’ side of DII, the All-League first team consisted of; Ka‘u junior forward TJ Faafia, Kohala junior forward Landon Kauka, Kohala freshman guard Layden Kauka, Ka‘u sophomore center Kaimana Kaupu-Maniniand and Honokaa junior guards Kiandray Rideout and Mauloa Tagabi.
The younger Kauka was DII Player of the Year, and DII Coach of the Year was Kohala’s Kihei Kapeliela.
The DII boys Second Team included; Kohala senior center Trever Figueroa, Honokaa senior forward and center Michael Gonsalves, Kohala sophomore forward Jayden Hook, Hawai‘i Prep junior guard Michael House, Ka‘u sophomore center Sam Landers and Kohala sophomore guard Isaac Libron-Salvador.
Honorable mentions were; Hawai‘i Preps’ Bruce Lee and Cam Root, Honokaa’s Elijah Kaupu-Alip, Aka Spencer and Kukia Tagabi — Ka‘u’s Emman Badua, Jaesten Karasuda and Jenson Navarro-Villa — Kohala’s Easton Hoshida and Pahoa’s Kukui Ahin-Ganir, Chelson Dawana-DelaCruz, Bobby Ganiron, Chris Kaawaloa-Alidon and Kailen Kamakeeaina.
